Fixably Introduces Parts Harvesting: Turning Used Parts into a Strategic Asset

Repair businesses face increasing pressure to manage costs, reduce lead times, and improve sustainability. Yet in many workshops today, used parts remain an underutilized resource. They are often set aside for testing or stored in boxes with little documentation, no cost data, and no clear visibility. Without systematic processes, these parts rarely re-enter the repair cycle even when they could help improve margins and speed up operations. Devices in storage depreciate while potential cost savings are overlooked.

When used parts are unmanaged, their value is lost:

  • Limited visibility: You don’t know what’s available in your facility.
  • Operational delays: During part shortages or long lead times, viable used parts sit unused.
  • Financial waste: Parts hold significant value, when reused in other repairs, resold as-is, or utilized for process optimization.

Early next year, Fixably will introduce a new feature designed to transform this challenge into an opportunity: Parts Harvesting.

What Is Parts Harvesting?

Parts Harvesting in Fixably creates a structured workflow for extracting and re-using components from devices that are not repairable or will not be repaired. With this functionality, repair providers can:

  • Break down a device into its component parts.
  • Grade and assess the quality of each part.
  • Assign costs to harvested parts for accurate financial tracking.
  • Add harvested parts directly into stock or route them to other endpoints (e.g., scrap).
  • Harness the potential of reselling the harvested parts.

This provides repair organizations with greater control and transparency in managing used parts alongside new ones. Harvested parts are easy to manage in Fixably, as users can set up a dedicated stock, or as many stocks as they need specifically for them. Repair providers can then choose between new or harvested parts based on availability and cost, making financially optimal decisions to improve profitability.

With Fixably’s Parts Harvesting capabilities:

  • Repair providers can choose between new or harvested parts based on availability and cost, making financially optimal decisions to improve profitability.
  • Inventory becomes more organized and transparent, ensuring that every usable part is tracked, valued, and available for reuse in operations.
  • Service lead times can be reduced by re-deploying harvested parts instead of waiting for shipments.

This launch aligns with broader industry developments. Apple has already announced it will allow Authorized Service Providers to use certain used parts for repairs, creating significant cost benefits and sustainability gains for repair businesses. However, to take advantage of this shift, repair providers need systematic workflows and inventory controls—precisely what Fixably’s new feature delivers.

Available soon

The new Parts Harvesting functionality will be available to Fixably customers worldwide in early 2026.

With Parts Harvesting, Fixably is giving repair organizations the tools to treat used components as a strategic asset rather than an afterthought. The result is faster repairs, reduced costs, and a more sustainable approach, helping businesses unlock the full potential of every device that passes through their facilities.
